Our Process

Leather craftsmanship in the United Kingdom has a long history shaped by practical design and careful material selection. At Lonaw, our bags are prepared with everyday use in mind. From selecting the leather to the final inspection, each step follows a consistent process focused on durability, function, and quality.

The Leather

Our bags are made using leather sourced from established suppliers. Each hide is chosen for characteristics such as thickness, flexibility, and natural grain.

Because leather is a natural material, small variations in colour, texture, and markings may appear. These variations are part of the natural character of genuine leather and give each bag its own individual appearance.

Leather Preparation

Before cutting begins, the leather is inspected and prepared. This step ensures the material is suitable for the design and helps maintain consistency during production.

Preparing the leather carefully also helps preserve its natural strength and flexibility.

Pattern Design

Every bag begins with a design plan. Patterns are created to determine the shape, size, and structure of each component of the bag.

These patterns guide the placement of panels, pockets, straps, and closures, helping ensure that all parts fit together accurately during production.

Cutting the Patterns

Each bag begins with pattern cutting. Panels are measured and cut to match the design layout, ensuring the shape and proportions of the bag are consistent.

Accurate cutting also helps reduce material waste and supports a smoother assembly process.

Stitching and Assembly

After the panels are cut, the pieces are assembled and stitched together. Reinforcement is added in areas that experience regular stress, such as handles, straps, and base panels.

This stage helps give the bag its structure and durability for everyday use.

Finishing Touches

Once the bag is assembled, edges are smoothed, hardware is attached, and the final details are completed. The leather is then treated to help maintain its natural surface and overall appearance.

Final Inspection

Before a bag is prepared for sale, it is checked to confirm that the construction steps have been completed correctly and that all components are securely fitted.

Only bags that meet these checks are made available on our website.
